Last Monday we talked about posts people actually want to respond to. This week is about what happens after that, the line at the end of the post.
A good post can still go nowhere. Someone reads it, gets to the last sentence, and there's nothing telling them what to do next. That's the job of a CTA, the call to action at the end.
On Instagram, that next step is almost never "book a call." Usually it's something much smaller: answer a question, share an opinion, send a message about what they're considering. The goal is just to make responding feel easy.
There are three levels, and the level should match how ready the reader probably is.
I write a Saturday Essay style newsletter for people over 50. Please share it with someone who you think will like it. Thanks!
Easy response.
A quick question anyone can answer without thinking too hard. "Ten days in Spain. Would you rather see three places or spend more time in two?" Good for getting people comfortable talking to you at all.
Invite a conversation.
You're asking the reader to tell you more about something real. "Planning a family trip to Europe next summer? Tell me which part feels hardest to figure out." Works best when it follows naturally from what the post was actually about.
Open the door to a sales conversation.
For posts that reach people already thinking seriously about a trip. "If Greece is on your 2027 list and you're deciding where to start, send me a message and tell me how long you have." You're just giving them permission to talk to you about it, nothing more.
One thing to watch for: don't stack five asks at the end of one post. Follow me, save this, share it, comment, DM me, link in bio. That's too many decisions for one line. Pick the one that matches what the post was actually about.
Before you publish, a CTA usually works when it's clear (they know exactly what you're asking), easy (answering takes no effort), specific (not "beach or mountains," more like an actual decision they're facing), connected (it follows from the post, not a random ask), and focused (one thing, not six).
Next Monday: someone actually responds. What do you say back?
Want all 30 ready-to-use CTAs across all three levels? Reply CONTENT and I'll send them over.
If posting consistently is the part that keeps slipping, reply SOCIAL and I'll tell you what we'd run for you.
See you next Monday.
